Volunteers Needed to Feed Kids in Northwest Oregon

The Blessings in a Backpack Northwest Oregon Chapter currently serves over 2,000 students in 52 schools in Greater Portland each week during the school year. But 93,000 kids living in Northwest Oregon qualify for our program, and due to the COVID pandemic, the need is greater than ever.

Each July, Grocery Outlet stores host the ‘Independence From Hunger’ fundraising drive to prevent food insecurity. Your local Grocery Outlet store has agreed to dedicate all they raise this year to Blessings in a Backpack! That means 100 percent of all funds donated will help feed local children!

We are looking for volunteers to greet and ask arriving shoppers (from a safe distance, of course) to consider donating to Blessings at the checkout. By doing this in the past, we have raised thousands of dollars to support our program. With your help, we know this year can be our best year yet! I hope you will consider carving out at least one or two hours between July 1 – July 31 to help prevent childhood hunger.

Please sign up for a volunteer time slot here and provide the best email to reach you at over the summer.

Once you sign up for a time, we will send you additional information on safely and successfully volunteering.

On behalf of Blessings, we thank you for your continued support. We are confident we will reach a growing number of hungry children as we look on to the next school year. Our chapter aims to feed 3,000 kids on the weekends by 2023. This vision can be a reality with the continued support and success of this event.
